Dutch-born Saskia Olde Wolbers lives and works locally to the South London Gallery. In 2005 Older Wolbers presented a solo exhibition at the SLG, Trailer, a beautiful, cinematic film following a middle aged man, who discovers that his real parents, who he has never known, were c-list actors in the Thirties. While watching a trailer for a film he learns that his parents disappeared in the jungle shooting their last film and subsequently two species of venomous plants were named after them; the Elmore Vella, a species of flytrap, and Ring Kittle, an ancient red back tree. Olde Wolbers' short narrative videos combine carefully crafted fictional scripts with visuals that reveal other-worldly environments. Off-screen narrators address the fluidity of fact through biographies relating to notions of translation, neurosis and verisimilitude with an eye for wit and the absurd. Referencing computer-generated imagery, her liquid visuals are entirely analogue, shot in real-time in model sets.

Pfui - Pish, Pshaw / Prr, 2017, one of Olde Wolbers' most recent works is a two channel video presentation that deals with the urgent business of toxic waste management and gives voice to Mr Theodosis Alifrangis, the longest-serving worker of a Greek oil spill response company. The work was commissioned by Polyeco's Contemporary Art Initiative (PCAI) which raises environmental awareness through an art program curated by Nadia Agyropoulou. It was co-commissioned by Invisible Dust who work with leading artists and scientists, to produce works of contemporary art exploring climate change and the environment.

Recent group exhibitions/screenings include: Our Machines, The Observer Building Gallery, Hastings 2016, Silence Out Loud, Museum Kranenburgh, Bergen.

The South London Gallery Shop sells books & magazines, gifts, cards, stationery and artist limited editions. The Shop opening hours are:

  • Tuesdays 11am-6pm
  • Wednesdays 11am-9pm
  • Thursdays 11am-6pm
  • Fridays 11am-6pm*
  • Saturdays & Sundays 10am-6pm

 

Please note our opening hours will change during the Christmas season. Please check the main SLG website for updates: www.southlondongallery.org.

 

*On the last Friday of every month, the Shop is open until 9pm.

Your order will normally be dispatched within 3-4 working days, at which point you will be sent a dispatch email from us. How long your order takes to arrive will vary depending on the items you have purchased and their most appropriate shipping method.  For artist editions please see question 8. The approximate time frames are as follows:

·         UK - 2-5 days

·         EU - 5-10 days

·         US - 5-10 days

·         Rest of the world - 14-21 days
