Hannah Lees | Edition of 20

Certain things flow and others are excluded, 2016

£100.00
members: £90.00

Glass wine bottle, clay
Approx. 15cm x 32cm
Edition of 20

This edition was produced in connection with London Cru. The bottle contains London Cru's 2013 Syrah wine (red) and the clay base has been infused with wine lees, the name given to the sediment or spent yeast from the wine-making process, as well as being the artist’s family name.

London Cru follows in London’s fine wine tradition of trade, innovation and eccentricity to bring wine-making to the heart of the capital. All of the wines are made in small batches: 600 cases at most and sometimes as few as 80.

Hannah Lees’ work investigates ideas of the cycles of constancy and mortality; the sense that things come to an end and the potential for new beginnings. This constancy, be it in religion or in organic matter, is visible in her practice through her attempts to make sense of and recognise traces of life. Lees works fluidly across different media, querying the substance of materials, science, religion and history, often presenting traces of processes and organic matter.
